There are so many beautiful ladies out there who would have won the Miss World Beauty Pageant but when we start talking about Miss World, the first person to come to our mind would be none other than our very own Aishwariya Rai who won the title in the year 2004 and became a well known Indian face on the global platform.

She became the Angelina Jolie of India after she married Abhishek Bachan who became the Brad Pitt of India. Aishwariya wanted to become an architect but her destiny led her to become one of the finest actresses in the world.

  • Many people reckon Aishwariya as a Bollywood actress but the fact is that her debut as an actress was made in a Kollywood film.

  • She was doing a lot of advertisements and modeling as part time when she was studying.

  • It was the ad that she did for a soft drink that made her a popular face and after she won the Miss World Beauty Pageant in the year 1994 she started doing films.

  • It was ace director Mani Ratnam who introduced her to the world of cinema with his film Iruvar in the year 1997.

  • The film was critically acclaimed and it was also a commercial success and a box office megahit.

  • But her Bollywood debut in the same year 1997 in the film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya didn't create much hype and did no do that well at the box office.

National Honours:

She won the Rajiv Gandhi Award for Excellence in the Field of Entertainment in the year 2002. In the year 1994 she was titled Miss Catwalk, Miss Miraculous, Miss Photogenic, Miss Perfect, Miss Popular and was the first runner up at Femina Miss India World and also won the Miss World Title.

International Honours And Achievements:

In the year 2005 she received British Govt's Next Step World Diversity Champion Award and also appeared on popular international television shows like CBS 60 mins, Oprah Winfrey, Good Morning America and The David Letterman Show.

In 2004 she ran in the Olympic Torch marathon carrying the Olympic torch. She was voted as the Most Beautiful Women Alive in the Hello Magazine's Yearly Poll. Her Wax Replica Statue was added to London's prestigious Madame Tussauds Wax museum.

In the year 2003 she was in the cover of Time Magazine as she was one of the Official Cannes Jury Member.

In the year 2000 she was voted as the Most Beautiful Women of all times.

  • She is one of the highest paid Bollywood actresses or may be the highest paid actress in Bollywood till date.


  • She was paid a sum of rupees 60 million for her work in the film Endhiran with the Kollywood superstar Rajinikanth.



  • It all started when the girl decided to do modeling and advertisements as a part time job besides studying. She became a model at a very tender age and one of her soft drink advertisement made her a well known face among the people. In the film Jeans there is a song written by a tamil writer Vairamuthu which compares the actress with the 7 wonders of the world and it conveys that she is the 8th wonder. This film was the first film from India which made the entry to the prestigious Academy Awards.


  • It was in the year 1999 that the actress succeeded commercially in the Bollywood industry by starring in the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam opposite Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan. This film was critically acclaimed and Ash's performance was applauded by both the film critics and the audience.
