Popularly known as King Khan of the Indian Bollywood cinema, Shah Rukh Khan has made an everlasting place for himself in the film industry. He is one one amongst the very few people who have made it really big in the industry without having any great filmy family background.

He was born to Taj Mohammed Khan, who was an Indian independence activist from Peshawar, India and Lateef Fatima, was the daughter of Major General Shah Nawaz Khan of the Janjua Rajput clan, who has served as a General in the Indian National Army of Subash Chandra Bose at the time of Independence.

But it was really sad for the King of Khan as his parents died even before he made his Bollywood debut.

Shah Rukh himself has regretted for the same. Shah Rukh Khan has an elder sister named Shehnaz. He was an all rounder during the days of his school. Shah Rukh Khan does extremely well at football, cricket and hockey, and he as such has captained all these teams. Shah Rukh has also played cricket at zonal and national levels.

  • He started his career of acting by featuring as a Commando Abhimanyu Rai in Fauji on television in the year 1988. It was after his parents death he made his Bollywood Debut in the year 1992 in the film Deewana.

  • The movie was a box office hit and his performance was very much appreciated by both the audience and the film critics.

  • The film also helped him to bag his first award, Filmfare Best Debutant- male award for his performance in the film.

  • Shah Rukh gets paid a whooping sum of rupees 15-20 crores for a film and 5-10 crores for endorsements.


  • After opting out from his Masters Degree (film making) after a year to make his entry to Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan made his entry through television. In the year 1988 he starred as a Commando Abhimanyu Rai in Fauji on television. Then he did a lot of serials out of which Circus in the year 1989 was a well known one, which roared on the television sets. He moved to Mumbai to make his big entry in to Bollywood after the tragic death of his beloved parents.

  • In the year 1991 he made his Bollywood Debut in the film Deewana. The film was a box office hit and his performance was applauded by both the audience and the critics. He also won the Filmfare Best Debutant-male award for the stunning performance in the film. Then he starred in Maya Memsaab which did not do well and landed him up with lot of controversies due to his explicit scenes.

  • In the year 1993 he did Baazigar and Darr in both of which he played the role of a villain and the films were an instant success which also brought him a lot of accolades for his vllianious performance and lined it up with Anjaam in the year 1994. In the year 1995 he gave his biggest blockbuster with the film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The movie was a box office hit.

  • Then he lined it up with Dil Se in the year 1998, Hey Ram in the year 2000, Swades in the year 2004 and Paheli in the year 2005. Paheli was a movie that would be close to any Indian film lover's heart as it helped India to make its entry for the category of Best Foreign Language at the prestigious Academy Award function. All these films might have not done that well at the box office but all these films helped Shah Rukh Khan to gain recognition and to make a place for himself in the industry.

  • In the due course of his career, he built a very strong relationship and bond with Yash Chopra and Karan johar. As a result of the bond films like Dil To Pagal Hai in the year 1997, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in the year 1998, Mohabbatein in the year 2000, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in the year 2001, Kal Ho Naa Ho in the year 2003 and Veer Zaara in the year 2004, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna in the year 2006 were made and were lined up releases. Then the he did Don – The Chase Begins Again in the year 2006 which was a remake of the 1978 classic hit film Don.

  • The film was a box office hit of the year. In the year 2007 he did Om Shanti Om which turned out to be the year's highest grossing film. In the year 2008 he did Rab Ne Banadi Jodi with the new comer Anushka Sharma and the film was also a box office hit. Then he did My Name Is Khan opposite Kajol. The film once again had Karan Johar and the film was also a huge success. In the year 2011 he did Ra.One with Kareena Kapoor which was a great success at the box office. In the year 1999 he set up a production company Dreamz Unlimited in collaboration with Juhi Chawla and Aziz Mirza.

  • Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani in the year 2000, Asoka in th year 2001 and Chalte Chalte in the year 2003 were all produced under this banner. In the year 2004 he set up an- other production company called Red Chillies Entertainment and Main Hoon Na of the year 2004, Paheli of the year2005, Om Shanti Om of the year 2007 and Billu of the year 2009 were all produced under this banner.

  • He fell in love with a Delhi girl named Gauri Chibba and he later got married to her on 25th October 1991. Being a Muslim man he was married to a Hindu woman, he and his wife combined both the religious backgrounds into their children's education. He has got two kids, a son named Aryan Khan and a daughter named Suhana Khan. Gauri Khan used to host a weekly Hindi music countdown show, Oye, for a music channel in the 1990's. She is now the face of the fashion line, Aftershock. She appeared on the January 2008 cover of the Indian edition of Vogue magazine. Gauri is a part-owner and a part-producer of the production company, Red Chillies Entertainment along with her husband Shah Rukh khan.
