MICROWAVE THAKKALI SADHAM Vegetarian-Dish

Of South Indian origin, tangy Tomato Rice makes a great one-dish meal. Serve it with poppadums.Tomato Rice has to be one of those simplest of variety rice dishes yet can be very fulfilling to your taste buds.



Ingredients

Small size tinde
: 8
Basmati rice
: 1 cup
Onions (chopped)
: 2
Cumin seeds (jeera)
: 1 tsp
Mustard seeds
: 1 tsp
Red chilli powder
: 1/2 tsp
Garam masala powder
: 1/4 tbsp
Oil
: 1 tbsp
Curry leaves
: 4 - 6
Salt
: To taste
Water
: 1 1/2 cup
Red chillies
: 2 dry
A pinch of asafoetida (heeng)

Microwave Thakkali Sadham

Method

  • Wash and soak rice for 15 - 20 mins. Drain the excess water.
  • Now in another microwave safe bowl microwave oil at 100% power for 30 secs.
  • Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and asafoetida, curry leaves and microwave for 1 min. at 100% power.
  • Add chopped onion and other spices. Microwave for 2 mins at 100% power.
  • Now add tomato puree, soaked rice and 1 ½ cup of water. Microwave covered at 100% power for 9 - 10 mins. And then at 60% power for 5 - 6 mins. Stir twice in between and keep covered for 5 mins before serving.
  • Serve with rasam and curd etc.
