The key to any Yoga practice is the performance of yoga positions or yoga poses also called as asanas. Each of these yoga poses have specific physical and mental benefits. Asana is defined as "posture and its literal meaning is "seat." Originally, the asanas served as stable postures for prolonged meditation. Asanas or the yoga poses purify and strengthen the body and control and focus the mind. Asana is one of the eight limbs of classical Yoga.
