The visionaries who founded IEEMA were: Mr. N.K Gurjar, Kirloskar Electric Co., Mr. B.K. Rohatgi, Indian Electrical Works Ltd, Mr. C.M. Shaw, General Electric Co. Ltd, Mr. Kishenchand, Kaycee Industries Ltd, and Mr. C.G. Gorton, National Insulated Cable Co. of India Ltd. Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers' Association (IEEMA) is the apex association of manufacturers of electrical, industrial electronics and allied equipment in India. IEEMA has a pan India presence with its headquarters in Mumbai and regional offices in New Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru.
IEEMA, the first ISO certified industry association in India, has over 750 member organisations encompassing the complete value chain in power generation, transmission and distribution. Its membership base, ranging from public sector enterprises, multinational companies to small and medium companies, gives IEEMA a truly national representative character. IEEMA members represent a combined annual turnover in excess of Rs. 1, 10,000 crores (approximately US$ 22 billion) and have contributed to more than 95% of the power equipment installed in India. India's exports of electrical equipment are around Rs. 18,000 crores (approximately US$ 4 billion) and the industry provides direct employment to over 5 lakh persons and indirectly to over 10 lakhs.

IEEMA has taken the bold step to restructure itself and has drawn an ambitious medium term programme. As a first step while restructuring itself to serve its stakeholders better, IEEMA evolved a Vision, 'Electricity for All and Global Excellence leading to Human Enrichment' based on the five building blocks viz; 'Credibility with Stakeholders, Excellence, Global Presence, Environment and Enabling Power to All'.
ServicesWith expertise resident in its product divisions and cells, IEEMA is the natural voice of the Indian electrical industry and plays a crucial policy advocacy role with the government and its agencies. IEEMA facilitates a robust two-way flow of customized and value added information between the government and the industry. It sensitizes all stakeholders on the future requirements for development of the power sector in the country. IEEMA also engages proactively in government-industry consultative mechanism through its representation on councils and committees constituted by the government and its agencies in policy, strategy and other matters.
IEEMA provides a vibrant platform for knowledge sharing, adoption of best practices and networking opportunities for manufacturers, utilities, professionals, international experts and organizations. It organizes technical product-specific international seminars, national conferences and workshops, as also numerous training programmes for capacity building of technical personnel in the country and abroad. IEEMA works closely with government agencies, utilities, standardization bodies, research and development organizations and testing institutes for formulating Indian standards for electro-technical industry and developing energy efficient products.
How to become membersAny Organization, which desires to become a IEEMA Member, needs to go through the procedure laid down by IEEMA.

STEP 3: ADMISSION TO MEMBERSHIP
- IEEMA Secretariat after receiving the Application will scrutinize the same and send for approval to respective Divisional Chairman or IEEMA President.
- On receipt of the approval, the Form is placed before the Executive Council for its approval.
- On approval of the Executive Council, IEEMA will send a letter of admission to the Applicant along with all necessary documents and invoice for the Annual Membership Subscription Fees and other fees, if any.
- IEEMA shall update the data given by the Applicant, which shall remain confidential and start the required services.

These are: Networking with Government, Enhancing the overall Brand of IEEMA, Understanding Members' Needs, SME Focus, Networking with Industry Associations globally, Organizing ELECRAMA Exhibitions, Promoting 'Made in India' Brand, Promoting Quality, Productivity and Energy Benchmarks, Organizing Seminars, Workshops and Training Programmes and Networking with other Cross-sectoral Bodies.
Benefits for MembersFounded in 1948, IEEMA today represents over 650 member-organizations from public, joint and private sectors, whose combined annual turnover is in excess of Rs 1,10,000 crores, i.e. US dollars 22 billion, with its members having a distinction of contributing to more than 95% of the 1,50,000 MW of power generating capacity installed in India. Now in its 63rd year of existence, IEEMA continues to provide unique services to its members. IEEMA undertakes various activities, major ones being disseminating information about government policy changes and statistics, representing views of the industry to the government, evolving price variation clauses covering a wide range of products and circulating price indices for the same, formulating industry standards, etc. IEEMA conducts technical activities under various divisions, where members meet and discuss issues concerning the industry and its growth opportunities. Being the first association from India to achieve an ISO certification in January 1998, IEEMA has now been recertified for ISO 9001-2000 in January 2006.
