THE PIER

The Pier in this beach is quite old which is at least 140 years old and it directly extends into the sea. There are also few colonial buildings belonging to the English period which overlooks the shore.

ARTHUNKAL

The Arthunkal St. Andrew's Church is one of the famous Christian houses of worship in Kerala. There is a grand feast organized by the church authorities every January in memory of St. Sebastian.

BACKWATER CRUISE

Alappuhza which is quite famous for backwater has cruise's which takes a trip from Alleppey to Jetty treating you with beautiful landscapes, monuments, temples, churches and industries of Alappuzha.

KRISHNAPURAM PALACE

This palace is famous for its mural depicting the story of Gajendramoksham, dating back to the 18th century. The palace museum houses antique sculptures, painting and bronzes.

MARARIKULAM

This is a very calm amd quite beach at a distance of 12kms from Alappuhza on its south coast. There is also a settlement of a fishing village. The other entertainments in this beach include pool, tennis, water sports and Ayurvedic treatments. aj Mahal was the replica of this tomb which features the silver jewel box in marble. It is the tomb of Mirza Ghiyas Beg, the father of the Mughal Empress Noor Jahan.This is quite different from the other tombs of the Mughal dynasty for it followed the central Asian geometrical pattern of construction with gardens and waterways.

KUTTANAD

Kuttanad is an expanse of water-logged land lying below sea level. It bears strong resemblance to Holland in terms of geographical features.

VIJAYA BEACH PARK

The Vijaya beach park s located on the southern side of the Alappuzha beach. There is a children's park here which entertains the visitors with boating and toy train facilities. You can also hire bicycles here and go for a cool ride.

PATHIRAMANAL

This little island on the backwaters is a favorite haunt of hundreds of rare migratory birds from different parts of the world.

SEA VIEW PARK

The park in the vicinity of the Alappuzha beach offers boating facilities and has a swimming pool. The rent for the boats depends on the type of boat you are hiring.

LIGHT HOUSES

This is one of the oldest light houses in Kerala at a distance of 4kms from the town. Completed on March 28, 1862 under the supervision of an European engineer Captain Hugh Crawfords, the light house sours to a height of 28 meters and its light has a range of 25 nautical miles. Initially the light house worked using old techniques but now new equipments have been installed. The first light-source was a double -wick coconut oil lamp supplied by Chance Bros. Birmingham in 1862. Then it was replaced by a 500 mm drum optic and DA gas flasher of AGA make in 1952 and after that an electric revolving optic system supplied by BBT of Paris was fixed in 1960. In 1998, a separate emergency light in 300 mm lantern was used which was again replaced by 230V 150W Metal halide lamp in 1999.The lighthouse is open to the public from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on all days.

SHOPPING

There are number of shops a little away from the shore selling coir matting and carpets.Alleppey is also famous for coconut oil, areca nut and sugar available here. You will also find hoards of fresh fruit and vegetables, which you will be more than delighted to buy.
