DHANAULTI

INTRODUCTION

Dhanaulti in the Garhwal Hiils of Uttaranchal is a place of perfect peace & tranquility is situated at a distance of about 25 km. from Mussoorie on the way to Mussoorie to Chamba.Dhanaulti is accommodated with thick forest nestled with deodar, rhododendron and oak trees. The serenity and solitude in which Dhanaulti Hills abound serve as one of the major attractions of the travel and tourism industry of the state.Dhanaulti is known for its cool breeze, warm sunlight and moderate temperatures which gives the hill resort a pleasant weather. It is splendid to watch the mountain capped with the sun and covered with hazy mist. ORIENTATION

Dhanaulti is situated in Uttaranchal at an altitude of about 2286 m.

TIME TO VISIT

The ideal time to visit Dhanaulti is between the months of April to June and November to February.

PLACES OF INTEREST

SURKANDA DEVI LAKE

Surkanda Devi temple is situated at a distance of about 10kms from Dhanaulti and at an altitude of about 2,903 mts.It is situated on the top of a mountain amidst dense forest.

After a certain distance travel by the road one has to trek for about 2kms to reach this temple. However the magnificent view from this temple makes the trek worth it.

This temple is of great religious importance in this area for a major fair is held every year on "Ganga Dussehra" (May-June) in which thousands of people participate.

 CHANDERI

This place is located on top of a small hill accommodating fine monuments built on Rajput and Sultanate architectural styles. There is also a huge Mughal fort which includes other monuments like Koshak Mahal, the Badal mahal, Victory Arch, Jama Masjid and ancient Jain temples.

BAREHIPANI AND JORANDA FALLS

This falls is situated in the Simlipal National Park and is supposed to be one of the prime attractions in Dhanaulti.The height of the former is around 400 m, while the latter comes cascading down from an altitude of 150 m.

DASHAVATAR TEMPLE

Dashavatar Temple, belonging to the time of the Gupta Empire, is the earliest known Panchyatan temple in North India. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple boasts of terraced basement, adorned with skillfully sculpted panels. On the doorway of the sanctum sanctorum, one finds the carvings of Ganga and Yamuna. The side-walls have 3 carved panels depicting Vaishnava mythology.

DEOGARH FORT

Deogarh Fort is situated near Pratapgarh is one of the most popular tourist attention in Dhanaulti and it belonges to the 16th century.Deogarh Fort houses in it number of striking palaces along intricately worked Jain temples.

JAIN TEMPLE

The place where these temples are situated is Kanali fort which was the centre for the Jains around 6th and 7th century. Soon the Jains built atleast close to 31 Jain temples in this area.The temples abound in panels depicting scenes from Jain mythology, Tirthankara images, votive pillars, votive tablets, Jain images visible from all sides and pillars carved with a thousand Jain figures.

MATATILA DAM

This dam situated in the centre of the town is developed and maintained by the irrigation department.Matatila Dam entertains the tourists by water sports. There is also a beautifully maintained garden to adorn the dam.

PRADHANPAT

Pradhanpat hill is known for its exquisite beauty and a gushing waterfall, which seems cascading down with all its force.

TALBEHAT

Talbehat was originally occupied by the Gonds from whom the place derived its name meaning the lake village. This place is situated at a distance of about 31 km, south of Lalitpur on the Jhansi-Sagar National Highway. This place houses the famous Narsingh temple in the campus of the fort here which was built by Bharat Shah, the king of Bar and Chanderi in 1618.

NEW TEHRI

This newly developed district head- quarters of Tehri Garhwal is situated on a hill at a height of 17.50 mts above sea level at about 37kms from Dhanaulti.

Once the Tehri Dam project is completed it will be a city at the foothills of the largest Lake of Asia.

A beautiful view of the surrounding landscape can be viewed from New Tehri.


CHAMBA

Chamba at a distance of 48kms from Dhanaulti is a personally magnetized old-fashioned and unenlightened town hill station amidst lush greenery, scenic picnic spots, and cluster of tiny villages.Chamba is known for its temples and scenic locations.The Chamba-Mussoorie fruit belt is also famous for its delicious apples.

SHOPPING

Chanderi silk sarees is the prime item purchased as the Dhanaulti your souvenir. A few people also buy Tibetan metal ware.

EAT OUTS

Dinning at Dhanaulti is quite tasty experience delicious, multi cuisine dishes- Indian, tandoori are served to visitors. Though most of tourists prefer near by Mussoorie for more advanced tourism infra structure.
