INTRODUCTION

Patnitop is a little table land, a popular hill resort, situated at an altitude of 2,024 metres, is becoming very popular with the tourists because of its very pleasant sourroundings.The landscape of Patnitop, covering the vast grasslands of shinning green colour in summers, takes totally different attire in winters. During the winter season there is a heavy snowfall which covers the total area.

If you want take an off from the busy schedule of city life then this is one of the ideal place with less crowd and more peace.Patnitop is full of picturesque walks that give great views of the mountains in the Chenab Basin. Also the tourists coming here can have the options of going for an excursions to nearby areas like Sanasar and Sundarani..

Good bridle paths passing through wooded lanes and fascinating scenery link Patnitop with Kud and Batote.Patnitop is surrounded by dense woods and lush greenery of Pines and it looks up at the Pir Panjal range The Tourism Authority of Patnitop is planning to promote the aero sports in the town and it is for sure that Patnitop is going to become a heaven for adventure lover.Patnitop also houses freshwater springs which is said to be filled with medicinal values.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The ideal time to visit this hill station in Summer is between May to June and in Autumn between September to October.

PLACES OF INTERESTS

GOVERNMENT MUSEUM

This museum situated on the Mysore road is supposed to be very educative. It houses items belonging to tribal objects, district's ecological details and representative sculptural arts and crafts of Tamil Nadu.It talks more about the tribal people of this area, Todas.

SUDH MAHADEV

Situated on the banks of river Devaka, Sudh Mahadev is associated with many Shiva myths. Pilgrims in thousands congregate at the shrine during the three days of festival of Ashadh-Purnima in July-August.

There is a regular bus service to Sudh Mahadev from Jammu; however a 8km pleasant walking or jeep able road connects Sudh Mahadev with beautiful hill resort of Patnitopon Jammu to Srinagar highway. Other temples in the city include the Gauri Kund temple, Shiva temple, Peer Khoh Cave temple, Ranbireshwar temple and the Parmandal temple complex.

THE NAAG TEMPLE

The Naag temple is one of the tourist spot which should be visited in Patnitop.The main feature of this temple is that it is nearly 600 years old and remains crowded through out the year especially on festivals and on special occasions. Though it is not a huge temple it reflects the faith and reverence shared by the people. It is also referred as the Cobra temple by the local people.

THINGS TO DO

SKITING

Patnitop offers a variety of slopes for skiers. Some easy runners are provided for beginners who can take a course or just hire an instructor for a short while. Skiing facilities are available throughout the year. Expert skiers can enjoy heliskiing during the winter months for which they may contact the tourism department.

The snow covered slopes of Patnitop are not very steep or bumpy, so they turn out to be perfect for starters. For more experienced legs, there is Madhatop, just 5 km away from here, which is more difficult and challenging.

PARAGLIDING

Riding the thermals and sailing the blue sky is a very thrilling experience. Paragliding facilities have become quite prominent in the town. Tourists are advised to undertake sport only through the operators who are registered with the tourism department. Also insist on the pilot showing you his registration license issued by the district administration.  

SHOPPING

Though Patnitop does not have much to shop still you can buy Kashmiri handicraft items and traditional specialties like namdas (embroidered wool carpets), pherans (embroidered long shirts) and woolens.

EAT OUTS

There are roadside dhabas and free-standing restaurants at Patnitop.Otherwise food are available in their own Hotel dining lounges. At Vardaan Resorts, guest are feasted sumptuous buffet in the restaurant amidst a tranquil environ. The extensive a la carte menu offers tempting array of Indian and Chinese cuisine. The town is well connected to all major cities of Jammu and Kashmir by state road transportation. Busses are frequent to Patnitop especially from Jammu.
