Baba Siddique murder case: Shooter waited outside hospital for 30 minutes to confirm death

The shooter told the police that soon after the firing, he quickly changed his shirt and stood outside the hospital for 30 minutes among the crowd.

Shiv Kumar Gautam, the main accused in the murder of senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique, has revealed that after the firing, he stood outside the Lilavati Hospital – where the politician was taken – to find out if Siddique had died or survived the attack, NDTV reported citing police.

The shooter told the police that soon after the firing, he quickly changed his shirt and stood outside the hospital for 30 minutes among the crowd. The accused left the spot after he got to know that Siddique’s condition was very critical.

Siddique, 66, was shot dead on October 12 by three assailants in Mumbai’s Bandra area. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang had claimed responsibility for the murder.

The accused further stated that as per the initial plan, he was supposed to meet his aides – Dharmaraj Kashyap and Gurmail Singh at the Ujjain railway station – where a member of the Bishnoi gang was to take them to Vaishno Devi. However, the din’t work as Kashyap and Singh were caught by the police from the spot.

How police caught the main accused?

Four close friends, whose late-night conversations on social media apps raised suspicions, played a key role in helping Mumbai Police track down Gautam, the main shooter of NCP leader Baba Siddique.

The Mumbai Crime Branch and the Uttar Pradesh Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested Gautam along with Anurag Kashyap, Gyan Prakash Tripathi, Akash Srivastava and Akhilendra Pratap Singh on Sunday in Uttar Pradesh's Nanpara area, near the Nepal border.

The investigation was triggered by suspicious activities of Gautam’s four friends, who were spotted purchasing clothes in various sizes and planning to meet him in a remote forest about 10 kilometres from Nanpara on bikes, PTI reported. The police later discovered that they were intending to assist Gautam in fleeing the country via the Nepal route.

These four people were consistently in touch with Gautam over calls. Their late night communication in particular raised eyebrows leading to increased surveillance.
