Diwali School Holidays 2024: Check State-wise Holidays in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and More

Diwali is just around the corner, bringing joy and cheer to crores of Indians. This year, Diwali falls on October 31, and many states across India have announced school holidays to allow students and teachers to celebrate this auspicious occasion with their families.
Delhi
The national capital, Delhi, has declared a holiday for educational institutions on October 31, 2024, to mark the occasion of Diwali. While Govardhan Puja on November 2 and Bhai Dooj on November 3 are optional holidays, many schools and colleges may choose to observe them as well.
Uttar Pradesh
The Uttar Pradesh government has declared October 31 as a holiday for Diwali. Following this, Govardhan Puja will take place on November 2, and Bhaiya Dooj will be celebrated on November 3. As a result, all schools in UP will be closed on October 31st and November 2nd and 3rd. However, no holiday has been designated for November 1, 2024.
Odisha
Diwali holiday schedules in Odisha can differ between schools. Some institutions have announced a three-day break from October 31 to November 2, 2024, while others have opted for a single-day holiday on October 31.
Tamil Nadu
The Tamil Nadu government has declared a holiday for government offices, public sector undertakings, schools, and colleges on November 1, 2024, the day following Deepavali. To compensate for this additional holiday, November 9, 2024, has been designated as a working day.
Karnataka
Karnataka schools will be closed on October 31, 2024, to commemorate Naraka Chaturdashi. Additionally, November , 2024, has been declared a holiday to observe Kannada Rajyothsava. Diwali and Balpadyami will be celebrated on November 2, 2024, with schools remaining closed for the day.
Jammu and Kashmir
The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has declared a five-day holiday for schools up to the higher secondary level in the Jammu division to celebrate Diwali. Schools will remain closed from October 29 to November 2, 2024, reopening on November 4.
