H1N1 Cases Cross 1,300 In Delhi: Is Your Parent Or Child In The H1N1 Danger Zone?
Delhi has logged 1,349 cases of H1N1 (swine flu) this monsoon season, a sharp jump from just 229 recorded till September last year.
The good news: no fatalities have been reported so far. The catch: for most people, this flu passes in under a week. For some, it does not.
That gap between a mild fever and a hospital admission often comes down to who catches the virus, not just the virus itself. Hospitals across Delhi-NCR are already feeling the load, with doctors reportedly seeing around 7-10 H1N1 patients daily in the OPD over the past few weeks, alongside a slight increase in COVID-19 cases.
Who Falls In The High-Risk Category For H1N1 For healthy adults, the infection usually stays manageable. Most H1N1 cases are mild, with fever typically subsiding within three to five days. The concern is concentrated in a few groups.
According to health reports from Delhi-NCR hospitals, those at higher risk of complications include:
The elderly Young children People living with diabetes Those with hypertension or heart disease People with chronic kidney disease In an Indian household, that list often covers half the family - a grandparent on blood pressure medication, a parent managing sugar levels, a toddler in playschool.
Which is why the same virus can move through one home leaving barely a sniffle, and through another leaving someone breathless.
