Tata Motors large trade: 0.4% equity worth Rs 1,758 crore change hands at Rs 970 per share

About 1.9 crore shares of Tata Motors, representing a 0.4 percent stake in the company, were traded in a large trade on Tuesday morning for Rs 1,758 crore. The shares were exchanged at Rs 970 each. The company's stock was trading at Rs 968.70 per share on the NSE in the early trade on Tuesday.

As per the scheme of arrangement, TML Securities Trust sold over 1.14 crore New Ordinary Shares (NOS) on the stock exchanges today for the purpose of distribution of fractional share entitlement as well as towards tax liabilities.

Tata Motors witnessed profit-taking in the early trade on Wednesday. The stock was down 2.24 percent to quote at Rs 966.25 per share on the NSE. The stock rose 123.57 percent in the last two years as per data available on the BSE. In the last three years, the stock moved higher by 213.35 percent.

By the end of the June quarter, Tata Motors' promoters held a 41.86 percent stake in the company. Recently, global brokerage firm UBS assigned a 'Sell' rating to Tata Motors, setting a target price of Rs 825 per share.

In its report, UBS raised concerns regarding the increase in discounts for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), Tata Motors' British subsidiary, questioning if investors should be worried about this development.
