Tamil cinema has always been known for its iconic rivalries, not just among male stars like MGR-Sivaji and Rajinikanth-Kamal Haasan, but also between female actors.

Actresses like Simran and Jyotika, and more recently Trisha and Nayanthara, have been at the center of such talks.

While both Trisha and Nayanthara continue to have successful careers, there was a time when their rivalry made headlines. In a famous Vadivelu comedy scene, their names were humourously mentioned. During this period, Nayanthara openly spoke about the rivalry in a late-2000s interview with Vijay TV.

Nayanthara explained that she doesn’t give many interviews, which some people may see as arrogance. “I think that doesn’t go down well with many, and they go on to term me as arrogant, etc… My point is rather simple… I only talk when there is something that is worth talking about.

I do give interviews when there is a release of a film, and if there is any issue that needs clarification. Otherwise, what new can I talk about in an interview?" asked Nayanthara.

Nayanthara said she maintains a professional relationship with most female co-stars. She shared that she got along with Namitha during the filming of Billa, but one day Namitha stopped talking to her.

“Honestly, in the first few days, we didn’t have any problems, and we used to speak normally. All of a sudden, one fine day, she stopped talking to me. In fact, if we were all in a group, she would say a hi to everyone but me.

There was no fight or argument, but when it happens suddenly, I felt it too. If they have a problem, it is their problem," said she.

When asked about her relationship with Trisha and Shriya Saran, Nayanthara said, “Friends is such a big word to use flippantly. I am not friends with Trisha… we are acquaintances.

There does seem to be problems between us, and it is almost like the age-old belief that women don’t gel with other women. But honestly, I have no problems with her or anyone."
