Yahya Sinwar, Covered In Dust, Threw Stick At Israeli Drone Moments Before His Death

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz confirmed that Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar, who ordered the October 7 attack on Israel, was 'eliminated', according to initial DNA testing.

The Israeli forces released drone footage claiming it shows Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s final moments. It appears to show Sinwar ‘sitting on a sofa, wounded’ in a ruined Gaza apartment with the walls blown out from shelling.

The video shows Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar flinging a stick over his head in the direction of the approaching drone with his right arm appearing to be severely injured.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz confirmed that Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar, who ordered the October 7 attack on Israel, was ‘eliminated’, according to initial DNA testing.

When the footage was taken, Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari said Sinwar was only identified as a fighter. The military then fired an additional shell at the building, causing it to collapse and kill him, Hagari said. He added that Sinwar was found with a bulletproof vest and grenades.

HOW ISRAEL ‘ELIMINATED’ SINWAR?

Hagari claimed that Sinwar fled alone into one of the buildings after sustaining injuries in his hand by gunfire. “Our forces used a drone to scan the area, which you can see here in the footage I’m presenting,” he said.

“Sinwar, who was injured in his hand by gunfire, can be seen here with his face covered, in his final moments, throwing a wooden plank at the drone,” said Hangari, adding that the Hamas leader tried to escape but the Israeli forces eliminated him.

Hamas has not commented on the killing of Sinwar.

WHAT NETANYAHU SAID ON SINWAR’S KILLING?

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that the killing of Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar in the Gaza Strip was the “beginning of the end” of the year-long war in the Palestinian territory.

The Israeli military said that after a lengthy hunt, troops had on Wednesday “eliminated Yahya Sinwar, the leader of the Hamas terrorist organisation, in an operation in the southern Gaza Strip”.

Netanyahu, who vowed to crush Hamas at the start of the war, hailed Sinwar’s killing, saying: “While this is not the end of the war in Gaza, it’s the beginning of the end.”

He had earlier called Sinwar’s death an “important landmark in the decline of the evil rule of Hamas”.

The chief of Hamas in Gaza at the time of the October 7 attack that sparked the war, Sinwar became the militant group’s overall leader after the killing in July of its political chief, Ismail Haniyeh.
