442 dengue cases this month, BBMP to launch campaign

The city has recorded a whopping 442 dengue cases in July till date and 69 cases just last week. 

The number of dengue cases being reported in the city has seen a sharp uptick in July, when the monsoon rains began to lash the city. The city has recorded 1,685 cases till date this year, over 26% of them recorded in just July. 

Chief Civic Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao directed officials to conduct a survey in areas that have been reporting a higher number of dengue and take up a campaign to remove mosquitoes in such areas. 

“There is a need to take up a campaign of continuous fogging and spraying of pesticides to kill mosquitoes, identify larvae breeding sites and address them,” he said. 

BBMP will also soon take up an awareness campaign to create awareness about dengue in the city. Mr. Rao directed officials to take up a door-to-door 

campaign where officials have to visit houses, create awareness about places where mosquitoes breed and how to clear them. He directed officials to rope in Residents’ 

Welfare Associations (RWAs) and volunteers to carry out the door-to-door survey.

He directed officials to encourage households to install ovitraps to protect themselves from mosquitoes. Ovitrap is a device which mimics a breeding site for container
