Taj-ul-Masjid is a 19th century mosque with a magnificent structure. The sprawling mosque is situated in Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh. As one of the most elegant buildings in Bhopal it stands tall with a pink facade. The words Taj-ul-Masjid literally means 'The Crown of Mosques'. True to its name it is one of the largest mosques in India and one of the most important to the Muslims in India. The building offers impressive views and is crowned with two massive white - domed minarets. This particular mosque is the most impressive structure in Bhopal.

However, the monument was never completed due to lack of money, and after a long lay-off, construction was resumed in 1971. The building really presents a spectacular sight and is worth taking a bow to. Its pink façade is topped by two huge white-domed minarets pointing upwards to the heavens, as if seeking its blessings.

The mosque also has three huge bulbous domes, an impressive main hallway with attractive pillars, marble flooring and a spacious courtyard. This is a must-visit site. The mosque is one of the most important Muslim landmarks in the city of Bhopal, and is multi-purpose as it is used as a madarsa, an Islamic religious school as well.

The construction of the Taj-ul-Masjid in Bhopal began under the instruction of Shah Jehan Begum but the mosque was completed after her death. With changing reigns and lack of money, the construction work had been delayed by many phases but ultimately it resulted in a beautifully adorned mosque of India. The 3 day Ijtima conglomeration attracts huge number of people every year from all corners of the country.

The Taj-ul-Masjid is constructed around a huge courtyard and a big tank in the centre. The gateway is double-storeyed with four archways and nine cusped manifold openings that open in main prayer hall of the impressive Masjid.

According to Padmapuranam, Sage Kasyapa installed the Idol of Surya at Arasavalli for the welfare of mankind.Therefore,Surya is of Kasyapasa Gotra. He is also termed as planetary King .

Eleven arches adorn the Quibla wall of the prayer hall. The pillars of the hall are heavily patterned with intricate designs and finally culminate topped with twenty seven ceilings.   • Through Airways: Through Airways the Bhopal Airport, also known as Raja Bhoj Airport, is 15 km away from the heart of the city. Taxi Cab will charge about Rs 150, one way. Bhopal city airport is connected to Mumbai, Indore, Gwalior and Delhi. International flights to Gulf cities like Sharjah and Dubai are operated from Bhopal.
