Rani Mukerji is an actress the in Indian Bollywood cinema. She is one actress who took up acting without any interest in the field. She mainly took acting because her parents insisted her to take up acting as her career.

She often carries an image of a girl next door and she as a whole is a very beautiful and a vibrant package with a distinctive voice. She was very lucky to have been born in a Bengali family that was very much highly involved in films. Her dad is Ram Mukherjee who a director and a co-founder of Filmalaya Studios, while her mom Krishna was a renowned playback singer.

  • It all started with a special short appearance that Rani Mukerji made in the year 1992 in the film Biyer Phool. But her Bollywood debut as the lead of the film was made only in the year 1997 in the film Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, nearly after 5 years of her first appearance that she made in the year 1992. The film did ok at the box office but her performance in the film was very much appreciated and was noted by the audience. It was in the year 1998 she tasted success in the film Ghulam in wnich she was paired with the veteran actor Aamir Khan.

  • Then she did a song performance for the song Aati Kya Khandala which earned her so much popularity among the audience and even helped her get the nick name '' Khandala girl''. She then starred in Karan Johar's directorial debut in the film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which co-starred Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol that followed in the same year. The movie was a massive hit among the audience and the film critics. After her initial stage of success was followed by just average films for the next 2 years. In the year 2000 she did Hey! Ram with veteran actor Kamal Hasan.

  • It was the film that marked the official entry into the Oscars. Her film Badal with ace director Bobby Deol did a great business on the commercial front and her amazing performance in Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega helped her to get nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. In the year 2001 Rani Mukerji starred in director Abbas Mustan's romantic drama film Chori Chori Chupke Chupke which also starred Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta. In the year 2002 she saw a reversal in her fortunes with the film Saathiya.

  • Out of the many films released in 2003 her great performance in the film Chalte Chalte was well very received. All the three films that starred Rani Mukerji in the year 2004 did a very great business at the box office, be it rendering of 'Sashi Biswas' in Yuva or her role in Hum Tum. Rani's role of a Pakistani lawyer in Yash Chopra's film Veer-Zaara was also appreciated and applauded by both the audience and the film critics. In the year 2005 Rani Mukerji starred in four very high-profile films Black, Bunty Aur Babli, Paheli and The Rising.

  • She was first and foremost noted for her amazing performance in the film Black, for which she also received numerous Indian awards. Her first release in the year 2006 was multi talented Karan Johar's multi-starrer film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and followed it up with Ravi Chopra's Baabul. In the year 2007 she had films like Saawariya and Laga Chunari Mein Daag. Her only release in the year 2008 was the film Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic which ultimately failed to do well at the box office. In the year 2009 Rani was seen in the film Dil Bole Hadippa! Rani was very lastly seen in the film No One Killed Jessica in the year 2011.

  • The film as well as Mukerji's uninhibited acting was very well by both the audience and crtics and it also received positive reviews. Rani also won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance in the film. She is next expected to be seen opposite veteran actor Aamir Khan in the film Talaash.


  • She was often linked up with director and producer Aditya Chopra. Though, they have never ever made any official announcement about their relationship in public.
