Introduction to the Career


Teaching is a highly noble profession which is a most suited one especially for women. Teachers are always a boon to the society. Through their intelligence, patience and sincere wisdom, they attempt to not only hone the learner's intellect and aptitude but also, create a well-rounded personality. Teaching has an influence which can develop ones' mind and character and also can give the satisfaction of having sparked the light of knowledge and dispelled the clouds of ignorance.

As this field is so vast and is having areas of specializations, different skills and type of training are required for different levels. If you like being with adults or older children you can opt for this option. Good teachers can bring out the best in every student. They are the ones who make a difference in the lives of their students. Rousing students from their apathy and watching their curiosity and career growing is one of the biggest rewards of teaching.


Career Prospects


In universities or colleges there are lecturers and professors who are specialized in a particular field. They give lectures, guidance and help the students in their academic and research work. Those who have good organizing ability have a further scope to become a principal, vice-chancellor in the management level.

This wil then be passed to a team of sub-editors who prepare them for publication. For smaller magazines or papers, multi-tasking may be involved , so you could find yourself covering photography, sub-editing, illustration and layout.Journalists can cover many of the topics, including news, politics, culture, sport and science, so you're bound to find something to suit you and your writing interests. Journalists have the option to write about local and national events, entertainment, lifestyle and human interest stories.

Journalists can never be silent- that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault. It must speak, and speak immediately according to Henry Anatole Grunwald. Generally speaking the more popular these areas are the more competitive it is, so if you want to enter the world of fashion or music, prepare for competition as these can be difficult areas to get into and tend not to pay as well. What many people see as less attractive areas such as business, finance and IT can prove easier to get into and ultimately more lucrative.

Educational Qualifications


A person must has cleared the examination of NET i.e. National Eligibility Test which is conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The prerequisite to appear for this test is a degree in post-graduation in the respective subject. This test is conducted by the UGC twice a year usually in the months of June and December.

Skills and Attributes


Post Graduate degree, preferably with Doctoral Degree. Eligiblity requries to qualify in the most priveleged exam which is the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the University Grants commission (UGC). NET is basically designed to test the person's knowledge and skills about the subject. The National Educational Testing Bureau of University Grants Commission (UGC) which is the body responsible for conducting National Eligibility Test (NET) determines the eligibility for lectureship for Indian nationals so as to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and research.

This kind if has been mostly conducted in subject like Humanities which includes languages, Social Sciences, Forensic Science, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Applications and Electronic Science. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) conducts the UGC- CSIR NET for natural sciences viz. Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Earth Atmospheric Ocean and Planetary Sciences jointly with the UGC.

Recruitment Process


Lecturing

There is a written test consisting of two papers.
The first part is of General Paper on Teaching and Research Aptitude.
SThis paper is designed to test the Teaching and Research Aptitude of the Candidate.
The second paper is of the respective subject i.e.in which the candidate has a post-graduation degree.
This paper is designed to test the candidate's command over the subject.
Once the candidate clears the test he/she becomes eligible to apply for the post of lecturer in lieu of the advertisement for the post.
Many states also conduct a test of similar nature called as SLET or the State Lecturer Eligibility Test viz. M.P.S.L.E.T. or the Madhya Pradesh State Lecturer Eligibility Test
The selected candidate is appointed as lecturer in the pay grade of Rs.8000-13500 per month in Central Universities and State universities.
Many new universities and educational institutions have come up which have generated a large number of vacancies for lecturers.






Moreover, there is a great deal of job satisfaction associated with this profession.
