SURVEYING

Introduction to the Career

Surveying is usually a science of measuring the distance, the position and angles of earthly surface. It is generally used for making more boundaries and land maps. Surveyor is a person who is responsible for accurately measuring statistics of any given issue which is usually revolving around the society. Such people should be experts in measurement systems. Surveyors use elements of geometry, trigonometry, mathematics, engineering, physics and law. This profession is suitable for the candidates who have analytical thinking with an interest in spatial information and discovery of the new world.

Performance and growth of industry in India

Surveying is an essential element in the development of the human environment since the beginning of recorded relevant history. As time passed on the role of land surveyors has broadened than the past. Commercialization and boom in the major sectors of the economy has increased demand for surveyor jobs for graduates in India. Surveying provide many employment opportunities. If one considers professional practice, Surveying can be grouped into mainly the Land Surveying, Hydrographic Surveying, Cadastral Surveying, population statistics, Mine Surveying, Building & Quantity Surveying, and Valuation Surveying. Surveyors have many number of paths in this exciting field, specifically construction, boundary, hydrographic, geodesy, photogrammetry, GIS, and forensic surveying.

Hydrographic Surveys :-
Hydrographic surveys involves providing information about the depth of harbors, bays, and other large bodies of water. Hydrographic surveyors usually map the sea floor, shipping channels, waterways, ports, locate currents, shore lines and other marine features, as well as map maritime zones.

Cadastral or Boundary Survey :-
Cadastral or Boundary surveyors usually measure, mark, and map the boundary lines of land ownership. They mostly measure the property corners, or the delineation from a neighboring piece of property.

Construction or Building & Quantity Survey :-
Quantity Surveying is being done for efficient management of construction projects and to effect economy. Construction surveying is applicable in mostly every construction work be it bridges, houses, skyscrapers, underground tunnels, pipelines, utility networks, refineries, shopping centers, and offshore oil rigs.

Topographic survey :-
Topographic surveys are the ones which indicate the elevations of mountains and the depth of valleys and even the location of rivers, lakes, and other landmarks.

Geodesy :-
Geodesy is the survey which is connected to astronomy. These surveyors determine the size and shape of the Earth and the precise location of points on its surface.

Options and Opportunities

Candidates having good knowledge of maths and love for the outdoors can fare well in this career. Surveying gives many job opportunities to the surveying engineers in various fields such as Land surveying, Hydrographic surveying, Mine surveying, Cadastral/Boundary surveying, Topographic survey, Valuation survey, Construction/Building and quantity survey. They can also work as GIS analysts, photogrammetric/remote sensing analyst, Forensic surveyor, expert witness, etc. They can also get employment with mining and oil and gas extraction companies, construction companies, urban planning, transportation agencies like major roads, highways and railroads. They can even find job opportunities in public sector, State and Central Government departments.

With the increase demand of stock broking the market is now in need of trained professional stock brokers who can meet the challenges of the stock exchanges A couple of years down the line the youth could never have imagined that the stock exchange would be offering them a lucrative career option. With Indias economy growing by leaps and bounds the stock exchange has become a hot place of action. Stock broker employment is expected to grow 25% by the end of 2016.
