PARUPPU RASAM Vegetarian-Dish

Dhal rasam (paruppu rasam) is a popular south indian dish usually taken with cooked rice. Its main ingredient is tamarind and dhal rich in tanic acid which serves as a good appetizer and proteins respectively.



Ingredients

Red gram dal
: 4 tbsp
Rasam powder
: 1 tsp
Tamarind
: 1/2 small
Tomato
: 1
Mustard seeds
: 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida
: a pinch
Curry leaves
: a few
Coriander leaves
: a few
Turmeric powder
: 1/4 tsp
Salt
: To taste
Oil
: Few drops

Paruppu Rasam

Method

  • Add sufficient water to the red gram dal, turmeric and few drops of oil and microwave on high for 15-20 minutes, stirring once in between. If required add more water.
  • Soak tamarind in water and extract the juice.
  • Add the cooked dal, tomato cut into small pieces, salt, rasam powder, curry leaves, asafoetida and micro high for 5 minutes.
  • Season with coriander leaves and mustard.
