RICE PAYASAM Vegetarian-Dish

Payasam is a traditional South Asian sweet dish, made by boiling rice or broken wheat with milk and sugar, and flavoured with cardamoms, raisins, saffron,pistachios or almonds. It is typically served during a meal or also consumed alone as a stand alone savory especially during festive season.



Ingredients

Rice
: 1/2 cup
Milk
: 2 cups
Sugar (add more if required)
: 1/2 cup
Cardamom powder
: 1 tsp
Ghee
: 1 tsp
Cashews
: a few

Rice Payasam

Method

  • Soak the rice in 1 cup water for 1/2 hour and micro high in a microwave safe bowl for 10 minutes.
  • Add sugar and cardamom powder to it. Mix and micro high for 2 minutes. Add milk and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Add ghee and cashews to another microwave safe bowl and micro high for a minute. Add this to the kheer. Add more milk if required.
  • Serve hot or cold.
