SOYA NUGGETS Vegetarian-Dish

Soya nuggets/chunks or "Bari" is commonly referred to as vegetarian meat.They are a rich source of protein. Among the vegetable proteins they contribute a maximum level of 50% protein. As they are free from cholesterol they are also commonly used as meat substitutes.



Ingredients

Soya nuggets
: 800 gms
Oil
: 1 tsp
Onion paste
: 2 tbsp
Ginger-garlic paste
: 2 tbsp
Tomato puree or paste
: 4 tbsp
Water
: 1/2 cup
Curd (made from toned milk)
: 1 tsp
Dry spices
Cumin seeds (jeera)
: 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder (dhania)
: 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder (haldi)
: 1/4 tsp
Chat masala powder
: 1/4 tsp
Garam masala powder
: 1/4 tsp
Salt, red chilli and black pepper powder
: To taste
Green coriander (to garnish)
: 1 tbsp

Soya Nuggets

Method

  • Soak soya nuggets in 2 cups of water and salt for 15 - 20 mins.
  • Microwave oil at 100% power for 30 secs. in a microwave safe bowl. Add all dry spices and microwave at 100% power for 1 min.
  • Add onion, ginger-garlic paste and tomato puree. Microwave for 3 - 4 mins. at 100% power. Stir in between.
  • Strain the soya nuggets. Add curd, ½ cup water and soya nuggets to the prepared masala. Microwave (covered) for 3 - 4 mins. Stir in between.
  • Allow to stand for 5 mins.
  • Serve with rice / roti / parantha.
