Introduction

DENA BANK which eminently does the job of lending loans and catering to the needs of people is a public sector bank that was established in the year of 1938, 26th May by Devkaran Nanjee and family. It was initially known as Devkaran Nanjee Banking Committee Limited. It was transformed into a public limited company in the year 1939(December) and was one of the 13 banks that became nationalized in July 1969.

It was formed under the Banking Companies (Acquisition and transfer of undertakings) Act, 1970 but was regulated under the provisions of the Banking Regulations Act 1949, as provided under the specifications of section 6 of the Act; the bank can also under take other business in addition to the act of lending loans to the public. It was later that its name was changed into Dena bank.

Dena bank has its headquarters situated in Mumbai and is listed in both Bombay stock exchange and the National stock exchanges. It was one amongst the very few banks to get the privilege of receiving loan from the World Bank for the training and technological up -gradation and also one among the six prestigious public sector banks selected by the World Bank for granting loan worth of more than 70 crores for the purpose of Financial Sector Developmental project in 1995. It had also created milestones by introducing tele-banking facilities in selected metropolitan cities.
