The Assets Under Management (AUM) of the Indian mutual fund (MF) industry reached Rs. 17.9 lakh crore in February 2017. The assets managed by the mutual fund industry expanded by 41.7 per cent from Rs 12.6 lakh crore at the end of February 2016, according to data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).

In February 2017, the assets of equity funds (including Equity Linked Savings Schemes or ELSS) crossed the milestone of Rs 5 lakh crore for the first time.The category witnessed MoM jump of 4.7 per cent.

All mutual fund categories saw net inflows during February 2017, except Gilt, Gold Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), and Fund of Funds (FoFs) investing overseas. Equity category continues to witness positive net inflows with net inflows of Rs 6,462 crore in February 2017 compared with Rs 4,880 crore in January 2017.

This is the 11th consecutive month of net inflows. Retail participation in this category is high due to steady inflows through the Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) route. Equity AUM grew 46.6 per cent YoY(year on year) in February 2017 and reached Rs 5.2 lakh crore at the month-end.

In FY2017 so far, total inflow in this category has been Rs 62,151 crore. The category is poised to end the financial year on a high note because of attractive valuations and investors looking for equity tax saving options.
