INTRODUCTION

Malpe is an undefiled virgin beach situated at a distance of about 66 km north of Mangalore and 6 km from Udupi.The main attraction of the Malpe beach is its never ending coastline flanked by three rocky islands on its western side. Initially Malpe was an important port on the coast of Karnataka fenced by the dancing palm trees for a long stretch of the beach. The Malpe beach is an ideal place to retire from the hustling and bustling noise of the town.

The main economic activity in Malpe is the fishing industry and is also one of the biggest industry in tile manufacturing.Malpe beach is one of the perfect holiday destination if you are looking forward for a calm and a serene location. There are also other entertainments for the tourists coming to this beach for they involve in activities like bathing in the sea, riding the sea waves, boating, fishing and angling, a lazy stroll on the beautiful beach or just sunbathing. There are also small ferryboats where you can hire for a ride.

ORIENTATION

Malpe beach in the state of Karnataka is at a distance of about 6kms from Udupi, situated on the mouth of the River Udyavara.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The best season to visit the Malpe beach is anywhere between October to January.

PLACES OF INTERESTS

St Mary's Island

The St Mary's Island at a distance of about 6-8 km from the Malpe beach can be accessed by the ferries. It is a small delightful island which spreads over an area of about a square mile and not more than 250 yards in width. It is a group of small islands with an impressive geological formation of hexagonal pillars of volcanic rocks.

Vasco da Gama was supposed to have reached one of these islands which he called 'EI Padron de Santa Maria' in 1498, before reaching Calicut.Again this place is beautified by the coconut palm trees in and around the island.

Ullal

Ullal is beach resort close to the shores of the Malpe beach and can be accessed by boat.Ullal is dominated by the casuarina groves and the view of the sunrise and the sunset through these groves is splendid.

Daria-Bahadurgad fort

The Daria-Bahadurgad fort was built by Basavappa Nayaka of Bidanur on one of Malpe's rocky islands and it draws a lot of tourist attention. It is situated towards the west of the Malpe beach.

Vadabhandeshwara Temple

Vadabhandeshwara Temple is another attraction of the Malpe beach housing the icon of Sri Balarama, installed by Sri Madhvacharya. This place is visited by lot of tourists.

Kaup Beach

The Kaup beach again in the same coastline of the Malpe beach is at a distance of 12kms from Udupi.The main feature of this beach is the 100 ft high lighthouse on the rocks which is considered to be a photographer's paradise.

This beach is loaded with natural beauty.

Brahmavar

Brahmavar, meaning a settlement of Brahmins is about 20kms from Malpe and is a famous cultural and heritage centre of this area. The place is famous for its three main temples, the 9th century Mahalinga temple, Gopinatha temple and the Janardhana shrine which depicts the Hoysala architecture.Brahmavar is also noted for its backwater where the tourists can enjoy boating facilities.

SHOPPING

The local shops Malpe near the beach are known for their high degree of opulence. Hunt for some collectors cheap in these stores. From cosmetics and aromatic oils of sandalwood is a specialty of these shops. In addition, there are a multitude of other stores to choose.

EAT OUTS 

There are number of decent restaurants around Malpe Beach where the food is really fabulous and also they offer a wide variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian along with Sea Foods.
