HEADLINES:

THE ALUMINUM CASTERS' ASSOCIATION OF INDIA (ALUCAST)

The seed for ALUCAST was sown by MR. H. K. FIRODIA, who was the then Chairman and Managing Director of Bajaj Tempo Ltd., in 1988, when in his opening remarks at the conference "Die Casting Technology & Economics" organised by Arkey Conference Service Cell, called upon die casters to mainly come forward on a common platform to find solutions to the problems faced by them. This made ARKEY work towards which is what called today as ALUCAST which was formed in 1995 and registered as Aluminium Casters Association of India (ALUCAST) in January 2005. ALUCAST had its first conference held in 1995 at Pune. It has since become an yearly event, held every December. Earlier all conferences were held at Pune. In 1999 ALUCAST moved to Chennai. It is now held in alternate years in and outside Pune.

So far ALUCAST Conferences have been held at most of the cities like Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Goa. ALUCAST 2011 was held at Gurgaon on 9-10 Dec. 2011. The Aluminum Casters' Association of India (Alucast) is mostly a registered body, which is managed by a Board of Trustees. Members include mostly the manufacturers of aluminium castings, users of castings, machines and peripherals for die casting machines, foundry chemicals and consumables, design software, dies, casting process simulation software, and others connected with casting manufacture and post casting processes.

The main goal of the Association is to provide help to the casting manufacturers - and thereby the supporting industries also by helping to achieve growth in their business. Keeping pace with the times of growing competition Alucast has revised the course contents in its training programmes which are mainly meant to meet the changing needs of user industries, the automobile sector being the largest of all. Alucast faculty mainly offer training courses and workshops, both in-house as well as class room type, the course contents and duration are being custom designed for each client. English, Hindi and Marathi are the mostly used mediums of instruction, but other major regional languages may also be considered. In partnership with Buhler India, which is the part of the well known Buhler Group, Switzerland, Alucast conducts training programmes which include practical, hands on training on a fully functional Buhler 53 Ecoline pressure die casting machine , installed at the Buhler Alucast Training School(B*A*T*S), Bengaluru. Each trainee is taught how to work out the process parameters for a given casting, set the process parameters on the real time shot control unit of the machine and run the machine to produce castings.
